Create Custom Fields in Salesforce Classic
Salesforce Custom Fields:- Till now we have created Custom App, Custom Object and now we are going to create Salesforce Custom Fields. When we talk about fields in Salesforce they are of two types-
- Standard Fields.
- Custom Fields.
What are Standard Fields in Salesforce Classic?
When the object is created in Salesforce, there are 4 standard fields that get created.
- Name.
- Owner.
- Created By.
- Last Modified By.
For Example:- If we want to create a field for custom object pharma products then what do we do now. To create a field in a Pharma object, go to Object. Object Definition Page | Create a new field. So how do we get to the object definition page?
Go to Setup | Build | Create | Objects.
Now a list of all the items present will be displayed. Now select the related object you want to make a field. Here we will select Pharma Product Custom Object.
As shown above, 4 standard fields are created when the object is created, but custom fields are not created by default.
While creating a new custom field.
Step 1: We have to choose field types. In Salesforce we have the following field-types.
Click the New button to create a new custom field for an object Pharma product. In this example, we are going to create a price field for an object pharma product.
The field type is mandatory when creating a field in Salesforce.com. Price matches currency so we are choosing currency as the field type. If we are creating a file for a phone number then we have to select the field type phone in step 1, All the other “field types” will be explained in detail later.
- Now click on the Next Button.
Step 2:-
In step 2, we need to enter all the details like field label, length, and field name.
- Now click on the Next button.
Step 3:-
- We have to set up field-level security.
- Select the profiles on which this field is to appear.
- In our upcoming Salesforce tutorial, we will learn what is Field Level Security in Salesforce.
Now click on the Next button as shown above. Now add to the page layout in which this field is to be visible.
Finally, click on the Save button. Alright, successfully we have created the Salesforce Custom field. To check how the custom field will appear in UI.
Now go to the custom object Pharma Product.
Now click on the new Button to create new Record.
